High School Electives

Our electives are not only fun and engaging but also provide skills students can use later in life.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses prepare students for the high demand careers with a depth of learning that builds real-world skills. Each course is part of a comprehensive program of study so that students graduate ready for a job, certification or technical school.

Brighton School has CTE courses and Career Exploration Courses to prepare students for their future.

Carpentry

Students who take our carpentry or woodworking course will learn to differentiate lumber type and material, learn how workers protect themselves from hazards associated with construction, identify a set of drawings, symbols, scales, and legends, identify and use drawing dimensions, and of course learn to safely use power tools. This a hands on course where students will be building and assembling.

Hair Design / Hair Braiding

In hair braiding class, students will learn natural hair sculpting techniques, weaves, twist, and locks.

Home economic students can learn the art of pastry making, baking, catering, nutrition and diet issues. Students in home economics learn life skills such as studying for written driver’s license, balancing a checkbook, and sewing.

Weight Training

Brighton now has a full weight room. Students can enroll in Weight Training and learn about kinesiology to see if a career in kinesiology would be the right choice for them. Students can also take the class to stay fit and learn about how to work out effectively and safely.
